split my soul
an evening length dance-theatre work
Split My Soul explores the dissonance and harmony between a variety of complex characters, drawing a parallel from life experiences in which one may need to utilize different attributes of the self. This process began with the pulling of inner characters, found over time through the choreographer, Kelsie Steil, understanding her mental health and becoming curious about how inner parts coexist. This led her to create a series of seven character profiles.
these characters will work with and against one another, exposing their inner stories and perils, and navigating set pieces such as stairs, moving walls, and a plethora of ropes. The set pieces live as entities, acting as whimsical, antagonistic obstacles.
The purpose of this project is to bring high-caliber contemporary dance to Maine and provide a cathartic visual and auditory experience to unpack mental health challenges and scenarios.
This production is set to premiere in southern maine in early 2025.
